Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Matthew 5:6
What are you hungry or thirsty for in this hour? What will it take to get you to that place of satisfaction? As we go through this life, often times, we only hunger and thirst for things that satisfy our physical nature with no thought about our spiritual nature. Many of us, confess Christ, but feed our bodies and satisfy our appetites with things of this world only, while our spirit man/woman is left starving for its proper food…. I want to encourage you today to start, continue or increase your hunger and thirst for righteousness or righteous living!
As the body has its natural appetites of hunger and thirst for food and drink suited for nourishment and satisfaction. The soul also has an appetite that only those with a listening “spiritual ear” can hear through the power of the Holy Spirit. No person created by God is exempt from this spiritual hunger and thirst, but unfortunately not all persons heed to this spiritual need and spiritual yearnings. Just as the body depends on food and drink for strength and growth; the soul depends on the God’s word, prayer and fasting for growth and development which brings forth a spiritual desire to live righteously before God. Heavenly things cannot satisfy an earthly appetite; they were not created to do so. Neither can worldly things satisfy the soul’s appetite as they were not created to do so.
Ask yourself this question. Do I have a spiritual hunger and thirst for righteousness today? Do I want to live in the right relationship with God knowing that I am not perfect, but continually living a life of repentance and holiness (set apart from worldly desires) and always seeking deliverance from spiritual bondage; addictions; bad attitudes; character flaws and personal behaviors that do not line up with the word or will of God. If your answer is yes, the bible declares that you will be filled (meaning that you will be content and satisfied in this life.). If your answer is no, I encourage you to start developing your hunger for righteousness today by reading God’s Word, Fasting and praying. Get connected and involved with ministry activities at your local church where you can grow and be fed spiritually and trust God to fill you with the right stuff.
Prayer: Lord in the name of Jesus, I come before you with thanksgiving in my heart acknowledging you as “The Great I Am.” You are my source and my great deliverer. There is none like you in all the earth and your plans for me are good. I trust that you are bringing me to an expected end Lord. So I ask you today to help me increase my hunger and thirst for righteous living and help me to be sensitive to the needs of my spiritual nature always providing it with the proper spiritual nourishment – the word; prayer and fasting. I consider this prayer answered now in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
Hi Lady Tasha, thank you for sharing a wonderful and timely insight. It is a reminder that even our spirits can be malnourished which leads to sickness and dis-ease of the body and mind.
Thanks for sharing Lady T. I’m enjoying your weekly devotions. Be Blessed!
